At Chadwell St Mary Primary the safety of your child is central to everything we do.  We take safeguarding very seriously and work closely with our colleagues in Social care and support agencies such as troubled families. Our strident approach to ensuring good attendance is part of our comittment to safeguarding and ensuring the best for your child. We make sure that your children are safe in school but also teach them how to stay safe outside of school and make good choices in the future.

Examples of how we do this include:

  • E Safety is part of our everyday work as well as holding specific workshops
  • Road Safety
  • Bikeability
  • Workshops with the NHS, smoking, drugs
  • Sex and Relationships education
  • Anti-bullying awareness
  • Making sure your child knows where to go for help
  • Firework safety from the Fire Brigade

As part of this commitment we have a large amount of information for parents about keeping your children safe. For example, we have held e-safety meetings and parent road safety walks. In our school entrance area there are many contact details and leaflets for parents.

We have also put links on this page which we will update regularly.

Operation Encompass

At Chadwell St. Mary Primary School, safeguarding our pupils is a core priority. Therefore, we have signed up to a new partnership initiative with Essex Police to identify and provide appropriate support to pupils who have experienced domestic violence in their households; this scheme is called Operation Encompass.

The purpose of Operation Encompass is to safeguard and support children and young people who have been involved in, or witnessed, a domestic abuse incident. Domestic abuse impacts on young people in a number of ways. Children are at an increased risk of physical injury during an incident, either by accident or because they attempt to intervene. Even when not directly injured, children are greatly distressed by witnessing the physical and emotional suffering of a parent or family member.

Operation Encompass has been created to highlight this situation and provide a partnership between the Police and schools directly related to domestic violence incidents. The aim of sharing information with schools is to allow ‘key adults’ (normally the Designated Safeguarding Leads) the opportunity to engage with the pupil and provide access to support in school following any incident.

In order to achieve this, Essex Police will share information of domestic incidents, where one of our pupils has been present, with the Designated Safeguarding Leads. On receipt of any information the DSL will decide upon the appropriate support required by the child. All information sharing and resulting actions will be undertaken in accordance with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). We will record any information shared in accordance with the record keeping procedures outlined in these regulations.

The purpose and procedures in Operation Encompass have been shared with all parents on 11.09.2019 and governors on 20.12.2019. Further information can be found by a click on the following link : www.operationencompass.org
